Not a fan. Our waitress was kind of weird. She brought everybody a glass of water and then asked if we wanted anything else to drink. After my companions ordered I said "Just the water is great with me, thanks!" to which she replies "So you want water. 'Just water' isn't a drink. Water is." Uhhhh??? Okay?? We moved on from it though. I ordered a sandwich with roast beef and horseradish on it expecting deliciousness. Not at all. This thing was so drenched in horseradish it was soggy, and as soon as I bit into it my eyes were watering so bad it looked like I was crying. I couldn't even eat it. I gave the place two stars as my brother had an "okay" burger and my mother had a dry, but edible tuna melt. Kind of pricey for crappy diner food, in my opinion. For two drinks, a plain burger with fries and a plain tuna melt it came close to twenty bucks.

My co-worker wanted to know where I wanted to go for dinner, so being a TRUE Yelper, I checked Yelp. I found that Pioneer Diner was fairly close and got decent reviews, so that's where we went. I found that the booth seating was slightly uncomfortable, but that faded. I ended up ordering the home-made Hungarian beef goulash, my co-worker got the crab cakes, and her son got the lasagna. Also with my order I got the Manhattan clam chowder. I liked the chowder and I really, and I mean really, liked the goulash. Unfortunately my co-worker wasn't a huge fan of her crab cakes. I tried them and they tasted a bit "airy" if that's even possible. Being from Maryland we're used to some serious crab stuff, so this was a bit of a let down. The waitress even told us that the crabs in PA were nothing compared to MD. My co-workers son really liked his lasagna. They served a side of bread on the house. All in all I liked the diner and will likely be a repeat customer every now and then.

We loved this place! Our entire vacation we focused on diners & it was a blast. The service was awesome, the menu huge along with the portions. Just like a classic diner. We felt right at home here and I think were the only table of tourists. Can wait to come back.

Waitress was rude when we showed her the gift certificate. Told us she had already had 5 customers with gift certificates today and hated them. Food was mediocre.

Average diner but will never go there again. Found a huge chunk of hair in my omlet. Sent it back and was not charged for it but I was not very hungry after that. Everyone makes mistakes so decided to give them a second chance. Went for dinner and my wife found hair in her food. What gives? Never again.

Not my favorite. This diner is average. There is nothing particularly good, or bad about the Pioneer. Everything is exactly what you would expect from an old fashioned diner that seems to cater to the elderly. All the food needs salt and some texture. Having said that, the food is warm and the prices are low so it will work in a pinch.

Well.. I've been here twice. I got the same waitress both times. The first time she was not nice & I never got a refill on my drink (at least to me); she was ok to the BF. (He had gone several times before alone, or at least without me/with others.) The 2nd time I went she was VERY pleasant & attentive. Total 180°. The food the 1st time was Ok. Not great, but ok.I've had better Greek food and better breakfast food. ****The 2nd time, I SWEAR TO WHOEVER, I LITERALLY GOT FOOD POISONING.**** What I ate made me sick. And just to be sure, I stupidly had some leftovers the next day (very little, just to see, if this IS IN FACT, what made me sick... And sure enough.. it was). I ordered Moussaka. The crust was hard and not edible. I could not chew it, it was so plastic-y & overdone. Whatever was on top-- some cheese or eggs crap-- was either undercooked, not cooked or went bad-- as in spoiled. And it tasted bad, too. The meat & eggplant probably weren't too fresh either, because I scraped off the bad top layer off unknown 'stuff' and still got sick, even on the 2nd day. (Of my left over experiment) I wanted to like this place... But I just can't. Nor would I ever lie about a place's food making me sick. And it did :(

Haven't eaten the food yet so I will post another review after I taste BUT......The waitress hasn't looked at me yet. No eye to eye contact. Horrible service. I'm here with two kids and she hasn't said a word to them either. Service sucks! Will not come here again! Unprofessional! Puts the drinks on the table and walks away without saying a word! Never again

absolutely sinful. although the waitress, with the short hair, originally from the Astoria section of queens, was absolutely comedic to say the least, the brown haired cashier with the bald spot was givin' us ugly and suspicious looks, indeed. in all truth, my turkey dinner had lumps of something in its gravy. my girlfriend's lasagna was so disgusting that she couldn't even finish it. the waitress really, really soothed the wounds of our most punishing visit, indeed!

Decent diner. This place was recommended by the attendant at the front desk. I ordered the french toast special, comes with eggs, ham, and home fries. My partner had the spinach and mushroom omelet. Needed some salt and pepper but for a diner very decent. They had something on the menu called scrapple. When I asked the waitress what it was, she frowned. Apparently, this is something you don't want to order. She explained it as scrapes of meat bound together to form a patty. Ewww. She said locals only eat it. That was good enough for me.

The Pioneer is okay, nothing too special. They are your more or less standard diner, with a better breakfast than lunch/dinner, if you ask me. I've had several pretty good breakfasts here, good service, well made, and served up pretty quickly as I remember. It is a Greek diner (aren't they all?), and they do have some nice Greek dishes...if you like the Greek food. As to the scrapple; welcome to PA, scrapple is in darn near every diner from Philly, to Scranton, to Happy Valley. It's great! As my mom told me after I asked her about it, "It's everything but the oink." All the meat scraps...ALL the meat scraps, some organ meat (traditionally), seasonings and a generous dose of corn meal. Grind it all up, press it into a loaf, then slice pieces off to cook on a skillet or deep fry. Not heart healthy, but very tasty...give it a try, you might be surprised.

Cannot complain about diner breakfast! I always order ham and cheese omelet and its always yummy. The servers and slightly strange and not all that friendly. But they do not suck by any means. We even forced a smile out of one but who doesn't love a blonde and brunette duo? ( old diner waitresses probably?)

Great diner food, varied menu with some Greek specialties. The spinach pie and the Greek salad are excellent. And scrapple is a Pennsylvania tradition. There's no shame in it.

Perfectly good, and better once they get to know you. This diner has been here forever. The menu has a good mix of foods, from burgers and fries to moussaka and avgolemono (lemon soup) it has something to tempt every palate. In true diner fashion, breakfast is served all day. Sadly, this family run restaurant is not open 24 hours, but we can forgive this, as even when the place is busy they are still only half filled. Last night my family ate dinner at the Pioneer Diner. My mother had Spanikopita, I had tyro pita, and my son had Spaghetti with meatballs. We all walked away full and happy. Two booths away, a man was dining with his toddler grandson. While they ate, the waitstaff played peek-a-boo with the boy, who filled the diner with happy sounds. As we left, I heard two waitresses talking about the boy's older brother and about his father. My son heard this as well, turned to me and said, "This is our kind of place. The food is good, the people are nice, and they recognize you when you come back." He is exactly right.

I have to chalk this up as one of the worst breakfast meals I ever had while I live and breathe. This diner or dump needs to spare society of its existence and just shut down.

As far as breakfast goes,it's edible I would not suggest dinner here. The waitress that I had was not friendly at all

This place is a typical greasy spoon. With a huge menu, they have plenty to choose from but nothing can be considered great and few things are good. The staff is fine and attentive enough for a diner. In general, I have found the food to be bland and greasy. Their omelettes have always been over cooked and appear to be fried in a deep bed of oil (read: tough). Unfortunately there are not a lot of options nearby.

Wife and I went there for dinner. What a mistake. I ordered the stuffed pork chop dinner which turned out to be what looked like a hunk of mystery meat doused with canned gravy. Wifey orderd vegetable lasagna. Hmm strange looking but we ate as we were starving. Went home and got really sick. Scary sick. I called them the following morning to let them know about my experience. Glad that my wife didn't get sick but never again will we even entertain the thought of going to this diner.
